Google Ads Budget Calculator

Optional: override industry benchmarks

What is it?

What is the Google Ads Budget Calculator?

The Google Ads Budget Calculator is a free planning tool that estimates the monthly media spend needed to hit a target lead volume. It uses industry benchmarks for conversion rate and cost per click across nine common verticals (B2B SaaS, B2C SaaS, e-commerce, local services, professional services, healthcare, real estate, education). Override the defaults with your real CPC and conversion data for sharper estimates. The output is a recommended monthly budget plus a clicks-required figure and warnings about budget viability.

What you provide

The inputs

The calculator needs four primary inputs and two optional overrides.

Industry

Pick the closest match. Each industry has typical conversion rate and CPC benchmarks built in.

Monthly leads goal

How many qualified leads you want Google Ads to generate each month.

Target cost per lead

Your acceptable CPL (used to flag if the implied CPL exceeds your target).

Currency

Display currency for budget and CPL. Benchmarks adjust to the major markets we serve.

Custom CPC (optional)

Override the industry default if you have real CPC data from your account or Google Keyword Planner.

Custom conversion rate (optional)

Override the industry default if you know your real landing-page conversion rate.

Methodology

How the budget calculation works

Clicks required equals monthly leads goal divided by conversion rate. Monthly budget equals clicks required multiplied by cost per click. Warnings trigger when the budget is below the algorithmic-learning threshold (~USD 1,500 per month), when conversion volume is too low for Smart Bidding (~30 per month), or when the implied cost per lead significantly exceeds the target.

The reason small Google Ads budgets often fail is not the spend level itself; it is the conversion volume the spend produces. Smart Bidding (Maximize Conversions, Target CPA, Target ROAS) and Performance Max are machine-learning systems that need a steady flow of conversion events to optimise toward. Below 30 conversions per campaign per month, the algorithm cannot distinguish signal from noise and bidding decisions become essentially random. Above that threshold, Smart Bidding typically beats Manual CPC by 15 to 40 percent on cost per conversion.

Two assumptions the calculator does not capture: first, that all your conversions count equally. In B2B, lead quality matters more than lead volume; a 5 percent qualified-lead rate at USD 200 cost per lead is dramatically better than a 30 percent unqualified rate at USD 80. Second, that landing page conversion is already optimised. The calculator uses industry-average conversion rates, but a poorly built landing page can halve your conversion rate while doubling your cost per lead. Treat the budget output as conditional on having a landing page that actually converts.

Industry benchmarks adapted from WordStream Google Ads benchmarks, Google research, and Magnis AI engagement data across BFSI, SaaS, e-commerce, healthcare, and local service clients. Last updated: 14 June 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Are the industry benchmarks accurate?

They reflect typical 2026 averages from WordStream, Google, and industry studies, adjusted for major Asia-Pacific markets. Real CPC and conversion rate vary by 30 to 50 percent based on keyword set, geography, ad quality, and landing page. Use industry defaults as a starting point and override with your actual numbers once you have data.

Why does the calculator warn about small budgets?

Google Ads' Smart Bidding and Performance Max algorithms need conversion data to optimise. Below roughly 30 conversions per month, the algorithm cannot reliably learn, and below USD 1,500 to 2,000 per month you often cannot generate enough conversion volume on competitive keywords. Below that threshold, focus budget on a single high-intent campaign with Manual CPC.

What is a realistic target CPL for my industry?

Highly dependent on lifetime value. As a rough guide: local services USD 50 to 200, B2B SaaS USD 100 to 400, professional services USD 150 to 600, e-commerce USD 30 to 150 (revenue, not lead). Calculate your sustainable CPL backwards from LTV and acceptable CAC.

Should I include landing page work in this budget?

No. The calculator output is media spend (what you pay Google). Landing page builds, conversion rate optimisation, and creative production are separate. Without good landing pages, even a perfect budget produces poor results.

What if my actual cost per click is much higher than the industry default?

Use the custom CPC override. Look up your real average CPC in Google Ads (or Google Keyword Planner if you do not have an account). The calculator will recompute the budget based on your real number.

Can Magnis AI run my Google Ads instead of me figuring it out?

Yes. We provide Google Ads management as a service: account setup or restructure, weekly optimisation, conversion tracking, and transparent monthly reporting. See our Google Ads service page or book a free strategy call.

Should I split budget between Search, Performance Max, and Display?

Default split for most accounts: 60 to 80 percent Search (highest intent, easiest to measure), 15 to 30 percent Performance Max (works well once you have conversion volume), and 0 to 10 percent Display for remarketing. Pure-Display cold acquisition rarely produces qualified leads for B2B or considered-purchase B2C and is usually a waste of budget early on.

How does seasonality affect the budget I should set?

Big swings in B2C (Black Friday, Diwali, school admissions, financial year-end) and noticeable swings in B2B (Q4 push, end-of-financial-year buying). Plan an annual budget, then weight monthly spend to match demand. The calculator output is a steady-state monthly figure; you typically run higher in peak months and lower in troughs, keeping the annual total close to 12 times the recommendation.

What is a sensible monthly budget allocation for a new account?

Month 1: 100 percent on one tight Search campaign targeting your highest-intent commercial terms, Manual CPC, comprehensive negative keywords. Month 2 to 3: hold the Search campaign, add a second Search campaign on adjacent intent terms. Month 4 onwards: if conversions exceed 30 per month per campaign, test Performance Max with structured asset groups. Skipping this sequence and going straight to Performance Max wastes the first 60 days because the algorithm has nothing to learn from.
